Here are two compositions that are very interesting to me.
They are both in Tintaal, but they are chakradars that use other foreign taals in their tehais.
The first is a composition my friend Rohit taught me from his guru. It starts with a triplet body and the tehais are one cycle of ektaal (12 beats), one cycle of arachautaal (14 beats), and one cycle of jhaptaal (10 beats), all in a framework of tintaal (16 beats) with the last Dha perfectly ending on Sam (beat 1).
The second composition was taught to me by my guruji, Samir Chatterjee, at my recent Ashram in upstate New York with about 20 of his students. This composition is a Shyamal Bose composition (my guruji’s guruji) and it starts with a body then moves to three spells of ektaal plus a Dha at the end of each cycle, the second repetition of the chakradar is three spells of arachautaal plus Dha at the end of each cycle, and the third repetition of the chakradar is three spells of tintaal plus a dha at the end of each cycle, ending on Sam (beat one) in the tintaal framework.
I am working on more of these type of compositions in various taals. More to come in the future!
