Beginner- & Intermediate-Level Tabla Classes: “The Basics of Tabla”

Teacher: Randall Jamrok
Randall, a student of Pandit Samir Chatterjee, has studied tabla for over twenty years. Randall brings a unique cross-cultural perspective to teaching, making the rich traditions of Indian classical music accessible and engaging for Western students. He holds a Master’s degree in Music Education from Indiana University Bloomington and music performance degree from Manhattan School of Music and is deeply embedded in Chicago’s vibrant South Asian classical music community. He has taught music in the US as well as in Delhi, India. Randall helps each student develop a strong foundation and creativity on the tabla.

Per Lesson: $30
Pay-per-month rate: $25/class ($100 for 4 classes, $75 for 3 classes, $50 for 2 classes in month)
Class format:
3:00-3:05 Group Bayan / Listening exercise
3:05-3:10 Group Theka
3:10-3:30 Beginner Students’ Composition / Intermediate Students Practice (Bols First)
3:30-3:50 Intermediate Students’ Composition / Beginner Students Practice (Bols First)
3:50-4:00 Group Composition & wrap-up.

Student will need to have their own tabla when they take lessons. The teacher can assist with attaining tabla.
Open to ages 8+
Randall finds that the group lesson format of mixed ages and abilities is best for developing a strong understanding of the traditions of tabla and South Asian music.
