I made this lehra to assist me with practice in unusual taals where other apps fail because of lack of options. So, I wanted to create a simple tool that could be easily programmable for any taal. Just set your beat cycle, put in your lehra from any pitch, and set your tempo.

Features include:
Tempo option from 12 BPM to 600 BPM!
Put in any lehra of your own from 1 beat to 201 beats!
Choose from 26 preset lehra melodies!
Also, it incorporates the Jamrok Rectangle of Tehai* to assist with improvising tehais and writing chakradars.
and more!

Try it out!

*The Jamrok Rectangle of Tehai is a systematic framework used to calculate the required phrase lengths and placements to ensure a Tehai (a phrase repeated three times) resolves perfectly on the Sam (Beat 1 of the taal or rhythmic cycle).

The framework identifies three key beats within the taal (rhythmic cycle) for the three repetitions of the Tehai to land on: Green Landing beat plus spaces (0, 1, or 2 beats, Red Landing beat plus space (same), or Brown landing beats (always 2 spaces).

Example: Tintaal (16-beat Taal)

For a 16-beat taal (like Tintaal), the Jamrok Rectangle identifies the three Dha landing points (Green, Red, and Brown) as:

Tehai GroupDha Landing Beat Phrase Length from Beat 1
GreenBeat 5 4 beats + Dha + one beat space
RedBeat 11 10 beats + Dha + zero beats space (bedam)
BrownBeat 15 14 beats + Dha + 2 beats space

Therefore, in a 16-beat taal, your opening phrase played from Beat 1 could be 4, 10, or 14 beats long, depending on which colored Dha beat you choose as its endpoint.

There are certainly other tehais you can create, but these are the primary options with 0, 1, and 2 beats in between. Also, every red tehai beats frame work can be played in double time to create an additional tehai option. 16-beat example: 10 eighth note beats, dha + zero space would land on quarter note beat 6 and still work (because it lasts 2 double-time cycles.) Green tehais last one cycle. Red tehais are two cycles. Brown tehais are three cycles long.

Example: Jhaptal (10-beat Taal)

Tehai GroupDha Landing Beat (Lx)Phrase Length from Beat 1
GreenBeat 3 2 beats + Dha + one beat space
RedBeat 7 6 beats + Dha + 0 beats space
BrownBeat 9 8 beats + Dha + 2 beats space

Your initial phrase could be 2, 6, or 8 beats long.

The purpose of this scaffolding is to assist you in improvising tehais.
